Cape Cod Vacation Activities for Families

Cape Cod vacation activities for families -- Beth Maroney

Ask anyone who vacationed on Cape Cod as a child and they all will say the same thing: they loved every minute of it.  Summer fun in Eastham and its neighboring towns always has been distinctly low-tech and old-fashioned. Vacations are all about playing on the beach, riding bikes, flying kites, boating, drive-in movies, and eating ice cream. These time-honored favorites have remained unchanged from one generation to the next, and therein lies the appeal of the Outer Cape. Time stands still. You won’t find a Starbucks or shopping mall but there are three–THREE!–mini-golf courses in Eastham, which has an off-season population of just 5,646 people.

EasthamVacationGuide.com teamed up with Mommy Poppins Boston to develop a list of family-tested and kid-approved Cape Cod vacation activities for families. Mommy Poppins Boston is a free online guide written by local parents. It’s for families who are looking for the best things to do, see, read, eat and learn in Boston.

Our 14 Favorite Wellfleet Vacation Activities for Families

(Details about each activity are posted on Mommy Poppins Boston.)

Wellfleet, which is Eastham’s slightly larger neighbor to the north, offers lots of options for fun family vacations. No one knows that better than Audrey Trieschman, who has spent  the last 20 summers in Wellfleet. She and her family love to swim, surf, cycle, explore, enjoy good food and take advantage of all that the town has to offer. Audrey is a veteran city editor who has spent over ten years seeking out and reporting on the best family events and activities in the greater Boston area.

These are some of Audrey’s favorite Wellfleet vacation activities:

1) Swim, body surf, go boogie boarding or skim boarding at one of Wellfleet’s four pristine ocean beaches.
