Is there anyone who has visited Etsy.com and wasn’t completely blown away by what they were able to find there? According to an article in Time magazine, Etsy did $895 million in sales in 2012, so it’s clear I’m not the only person who’s hooked on the site.
Of course I don’t love all handmade items equally. I’ve spent a lot of time doing the craft-show circuit and used to be an editor at a craft magazine, so believe me when I say I’ve seen the good, the bad and the unbelievably ugly. Does the world really need any more clothespin dolls or painted rocks?
When I come across something that’s as colorful and original as this license plate sign from Custom Plate Art 4U on Etsy, I get happy. The fact that it uses recycled materials means it garners bonus points from me.
The artist, Mike Kuehn, began collecting old license plates in 2007. He hung them around his garage until his creative juices started flowing.
Mike welcomes custom orders so start thinking about what you might want him to create that will remind you of your fabulous summer vacation: BEACH BUM, SURFS UP or even I LOVE EASTHAM.
