It’s all about the location at Mac’s on the Pier in Wellfleet. Situated at the end of Commercial Street and overlooking picturesque Wellfleet Harbor, Mac’s has only a take-out window and outdoor seating, so it’s a great place for families with young kids or anyone else who’s looking for a super-casual and alfresco eating option.
Leashed dogs are welcome.
A dozen or so picnic tables with umbrellas sit in a sandy area facing Cape Cod Bay on one side and a pretty marsh on the other. Plan to arrive just before sunset on a clear summer day and you may be in for a visual treat.
The menu at Mac’s walk-up window includes the usual array of Cape Cod fare–fried seafood, hot dogs, burgers and chicken sandwiches–but they’ve wisely diversified a bit to give vacationers with a more refined palate reasons to return more often. Scallop burritos, anyone? They were absolutely delicious the last time we ordered them. We also love the grilled swordfish with steamed veggies. Mac’s portions are generous and prices are comparable to those at other seafood shacks in the area.
Mac’s Seafood Market next door carries a wide variety of super-fresh, locally-caught fish.
Both Mac’s on the Pier and Mac’s Seafood Market are open seasonally. Owner Mac Hay has established seafood markets in Eastham and Truro too, as well as full-service restaurants in Wellfleet and Provincetown.
